At only 15 years old Ryan began shooting and processing black and white BMX bike imagery. Inspired by Steven Meisel and Gregory Crewdson use of light, he became dedicated on learning to use light and colour, to shape his images. Having a passion to learn more he embarked on a 3 year degree at Wintec School of Media Arts. Ryan achieved top in photography in both his first and second year of study. Due to his unique projects undertaken such as his exploration the architecture of New Zealand’s unseen hydro power stations.
In his last year at Wintec Ryan worked for Aaron K, one of New Zealand leading Fashion and Beauty photographers. Ryan is an active member of the Advertising and Illustrative Photographers Association. Through out all of this he continued working in the cycling industry shooting BMX for leading Australian magazines 2020 and Rebel Yell as well as shooting mountain biking for New Zealand’s top mountain biking magazine Spoke.
His work is seen as being fresh, modern and individual; through his use of light to create mood and atmosphere making his images memorable.
